HONORS

MNLA Grand Award for Landscape Design/Build

Nature’s Way has had the honor of working for this client for over 30 years. In that time, areas of the landscape changed as did landscaping styles and the Client’s needs. Constantly changing and growing, we were able to design several areas over this 79 acre estate throughout the years. Complete with two tennis courts, basketball court, offices for the onsite business, entrances, waterfalls, parks, and a beautiful state of the art gym complete with a full boxing ring! This particular project focused mainly on the pool area.

The pool area was originally built in the 70’s. Neglected throughout the 80’s it was rehabilitated during the late 80’s and early 90’s. It was flanked by a pool house that was never really that useful. While the entire area existed and was used and was a beautiful setting, it did not lend itself to the outdoor living trend that began and is still taking place today.

It all started with seeing and outdoor kitchen that we had built for another Client. Thinking that they needed one, we started suggesting simple ideas and locations where it could be easily built. Little did we know the clients had something a bit larger in mind! This led to a year-long project, completely tearing apart the existing pool house and transforming it into one of the nicest outdoor kitchen areas ever constructed! Nature’s Way provided the entire landscape design as well as concept drawings for the pool house and kitchen. Then, needing to balance the pool area, we created a new space using retaining walls for an outdoor seating area where one can feel the warmth of the fireplace on cool nights.

The entire estate is surrounded on three sides by the Saint Joseph river and it was important to us that we capture the expansiveness of the views outward. Whereas previously, this area was very closed off. Now, whether lounging by the water, or enjoying a cocktail at the bar, a once closed off area became center stage putting the exclamation point on the landscape.
